Building Project

Overview

The Upstate Islamic Center is an expansion project developed and managed by the Islamic Society of Greenville (ISG), an organization that has been serving the Muslims in the South Carolina Upstate for over 25 years.  This is an important project that will serve the needs of over 1,000 Muslims in the vicinity.  (More details of this project can be found here.)

As the first two stages of the expansion project are now complete, the community will now focus on the construction of a school building to accommodate the full-time elementary school operations of As-Sabeel Academy.

The Need

Alhamdulillah, since the school’s modest beginnings in 2008, As-Sabeel Academy has demonstrated strong growth.  Although school operations are currently being held at the ISG Masjid, the community recognizes that this is not a sustainable solution.  With each new school year, the school’s student population grows by approximately 15 students.  The need for facilities that can appropriately accommodate the needs of As-Sabeel Academy is both necessary and urgent.

The Goal

Although detailed layouts and plans are still forthcoming, the project aims to provide As-Sabeel Academy with a 6,000 square foot school building that offers:

  • Appropriately sized classrooms for 1st through 6th Grade
  • Large classrooms for Preschool and Kindergarten to accommodate activity centers
  • School Library and Conference Room(s)
  • Computer Lab
  • Administrative Office
  • Restrooms and Storage Space
