We are excited to be offering Elementary and Middle School Book Club again during the 2019-2020 school year. Students in Book Club meet bi-weekly either before or after school, and compete in the SCISA Battle of the Books competition. Last year, our Middle School students won the State Battle of the Books!
In order for the club to be successful, members must be committed participants, which means they must complete assigned readings on time, and ensure that they understand the texts they are reading.
Want to join? Be sure you…
- Read at least 8 books from the SCISA Battle of the Books List by September 1st. Many of the books are available at the public library; several can even be checked out as e-books. And, there’s always Amazon! Be sure you record all the books you read from the list.
- Read for understanding. You should be able to write a brief summary of each book you’ve read and answer questions about the main characters and the plot.
- Read additional books you are assigned once meetings begin. You will be assigned 5 additional books to read between September and December.
- Email any questions to Mrs. Johnna – jmalici@sabeelacademy.com
Please note: Only students who complete the required reading and can demonstrate understanding of the texts will be able to join and participate in Battle of the Books.
